PUTRAJAYA: A new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Orkim cluster, has been detected in Johor involving a ship docked at the Pasir Gudang port, says the Health Ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 30 individuals who are the ship's crew have been screened for Covid-19, with two testing positive.
"The first case of this cluster is an Indonesian national crewmember. He had signed on in Singapore on Sept 10.
"The patient experienced fever, cough, breathing problems, diarrhoea and vomiting since Sept 13 but he did not inform his employer.
"He signed off on Sept 17 and only went for treatment at a private clinic on Sept 22. He was then referred to Permai Hospital in Johor where he tested positive for Covid-19," said Dr Noor Hisham in a statement on Friday (Sept 25).
A screening on other crew members found a second positive case, who is also an Indonesian.
The two positive cases, aged 41 and 28, are both receiving treatment at Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Kalsom.
Dr Noor Hisham said the source of the infection is still under investigation.
He said four individuals are still waiting for their test results, while 24 others have tested negative.
"Preventive measures such as sanitisation and disinfection works have been conducted at the ship," said Dr Noor Hisham.
