Cops arrest five for alcohol-fueled brawl in Sibu

SIBU: Five people have been arrested for fighting at Jalan Tong Sang on Tuesday (Sept 8).

A video of the fight has gone viral on social media.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, said the police received a call regarding a fight which broke out on Jalan Tong Sang at 4.55pm on Tuesday.

Several policemen immediately rushed to the scene.

According to ACP Stanley, police investigation revealed that the incident took place in front one of the houses in the area, where all the suspects were believed to be under the influence of alcohol believed to be "Langkau", a locally brewed alcoholic drink.

"The fight was believed to have started from an argument between two suspects. When another suspect tried to intervene, he was instead beaten and this resulted in a struggle between them," he said.

When the policemen arrived at the scene, they found a suspect lying on the side of the road. He was later sent to Sibu Hospital for treatment for his injuries," he said.

The police also seized a piece of wood, believed to have been used in the fight.

The suspects, aged between 13 and 27, have been remanded for four days by the court.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting at a public place.
