Johor cops laud MBJB enforcement officer, public for coming to snatch theft victim's aid

JOHOR BARU: A local council enforcement officer came to a 30-year-old woman’s aid after her handbag was snatched by a man on a motorcycle.

The snatch theft occurred while the woman was crossing a road in Taman Mount Austin here around 12.45pm on Tuesday (Sept 1), said Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain.

“After snatching the handbag, the suspect fell from his motorcycle.

“The victim screamed for help and Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) enforcement personnel on duty nearby, as well as other members of the public, rushed to her aid.

“They surrounded the suspect while waiting for the police to arrive, ” he said.

CCTV footage and clips of the snatch theft incident went viral on social media with many internet users praising the men for helping the victim.

In the video clips, the suspect, wearing a blue T-shirt and helmet, could also be seen fighting back as the group of men surrounded him to stop him from getting away.

ACP Mohd Padzli added that the 32-year-old suspect has been arrested and his motorcycle was also seized for investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery, which provides imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine or whipping, if found guilty.

He also praised the MBJB personnel and members of the public for their bravery and quick actions in rushing to the victim’s rescue.
