Covid-19: 25 new cases, 28 recoveries and no new deaths

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 25 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 16), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,200 cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Sunday (Aug 16) said out of this total, 16 were imported cases while the nine were local transmissions.

He said of the nine local transmissions, seven were Malaysians and two foreigners.

"Out of the seven cases transmitted locally that involved Malaysians, five cases were from the Tawar cluster in Kedah, one case from the pre-surgery vetting test at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu and another case also from the Tawar cluster in Penang," he said in a statement.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 28 recoveries were recorded by the Health Ministry, bringing the number of those discharged to 8,859.

He revealed that there were 216 active cases in the country but all had been isolated and given the necessary treatment.

No new deaths were reported, with the toll remaining at 125.
