Muhyiddin: Let’s have faith in our judicial system

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should continue to have faith in an independent judicial system, says Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

His statement, which came about after the High Court’s guilty verdict against Datuk Seri Najib Razak on seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, also stated that the Perikatan Nasional government would always uphold the rule of law.

“Let’s continue to have faith in the judicial system,” he said yesterday.

“I understand the feelings and sentiments about the court judgment but let me stress that the government will always uphold the rule of law.”

He also said the government respected Najib’s right to appeal his sentence.

“Let us give space for the legal process to take place to ensure justice is upheld,” said the Prime Minister.

Former prime minister Najib was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210mil, in default five years’ jail, after he was found guilty of the charges in the first of a series of cases related to the 1MDB scandal.
