Health DG disappointed to see SOP breached at Duta court complex

PETALING JAYA: Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is saddened to see many breaking social distancing measures at the Duta Court Complex during the SRC trial of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Tuesday (July 28).

"Every day the Health Ministry reminds Malaysians to obey the SOP of maintaining safe distancing of at least 1m, wearing face masks and frequently washing your hands.

"It is sad to see a situation without self-control," he said in a tweet in reply to a Bernama post titled "Parliament members worried about the creation of a new cluster" on Tuesday (July 28).

Bernama's story highlighted photos of Najib's supporters gathering outside the Duta Court Complex.

The photos showed numerous people congregating without practising social distancing and properly wearing face masks, which were essential during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, Sentul OCPD Asst Comm S. Shanmugamoorthy said between 600 and 700 people turned up for Najib's case but added that the number had dwindled due to various factors, including the weather.

"We discovered that Najib's supporters had begun marching in the morning from the Federal Territory Mosque in huge numbers.

"We also warned them to adhere to the SOP, including to maintain social distancing and wear face masks.

"At first they did not comply but after a few reminders, they complied. The situation is under control and no untoward incidents occurred," he said when met at the court complex.
