KAJANG: A teenager took about two weeks to muster up enough courage to report the alleged abuse at the hands of her father for daring to leave the house.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the 16-year-old was allegedly caned and then burnt with a joss stick on July 4 before she lodged a report on July 17.
“It was not the first time the teenager has suffered such punishment as she said her father has caned her since she was in Form One for allegedly leaving the house to look for her mother,” he said, adding that the girl’s parents had separated in 2009.
In the latest incident, ACP Zaid said the teenager left the house on July 2 and when her father found out about it, he allegedly punished her, causing her to suffer injuries to her leg.
Her grandmother, who was living with them, then took her for treatment.
Despite the trauma, the teenager risked leaving the house again on July 17 to tell a friend, who later helped her lodge a police report.
The father, a 39-year-old e-hailing driver, was later arrested and the case is being investigated for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment and exposure of children under the Child Act 2001.
