Covid-19: 14 new cases recorded, total now at 8,529, no new deaths (updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 14 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (June 18), bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 8,529.

Of the 14 cases, three are imported cases involving two Malaysians and one permanent resident, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement Thursday.

Seven of the local transmission cases are non-Malaysians in Kuala Lumpur (two cases), Sarawak (two), Selangor (one), Sabah (one) and Perak (one).

Of the four Malaysian local transmission cases, two are staff working at the Bukit Jalil detention centre.

The other two were detected in Sarawak - including one from a pre-operation screening at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

The other Sarawak case is of an individual who was tested prior to flying overseas for a matter.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 127 cases have been discharged, which means 8,000 patients have recovered from Covid-19 since the outbreak began.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 93.8% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are now 408 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities.

Of the active cases, four patients are being treated at intensive care units (ICU) and none are on ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham announced no new deaths, which means the death toll remains at 121 cases.
