‘Customers can ask salons for Covid-19 fitness certs’

PUTRAJAYA: Customers should demand Covid-19 testing certificates if they frequent shops that hire foreign barbers or hairdressers, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister said customers could ask for such proof as these premises were only allowed to operate if their foreign workers had been screened for Covid-19.

“If they tested negative, they would be issued with a certificate or a letter. Customers can demand such proof. If the foreign barbers or hairdressers fail to show the proof, report it to the authorities, ” he told reporters during his daily briefing yesterday.

Barbers or hair salons that did not comply with the regulations would be shut down, he said.

He was asked to comment on the news that a barber in Setapak had tested positive for Covid-19 but Ismail Sabri said he had not gotten the latest report from the Health Ministry.

“If this is true, the premises will be closed and appropriate actions will be taken.”

Ismail Sabri also advised road users to strictly abide with Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) at rest and recreational (R&R) areas, which is now allowed to operate.

He said visitors at R&R areas would be asked to record their particulars, have their temperatures taken, as well as maintain 1m social distancing.

“This weekend, we are expecting heavy traffic on highways with people wanting to balik kampung.

“All visitors and workers at R&R areas must obey the SOP.

“Visitors are also advised to install MySejahtera app to record their attendance. If they do not have the app, they have to record their details manually in the logbook provided, ” he said.

Those who pray at the surau in R&R areas must practise social distancing at all times, said Ismail Sabri.

“We are asking people to bring their own sejadah (praying mats) and also to ensure distancing during wudhu (ablution), ” he said.

Children’s playgrounds at R&R areas would remain closed for the time being, he added.

Food stalls there will open from 6am to midnight every day.
