ALOR GAJAH: An imam of a mosque here plans to invite YouTube sensation "Sugu Pavithra" to prepare curry dishes during a Hari Raya celebration slated for the end of the year.
Norizanuddin Md Tahir, the imam of Kampung Baru Mosque, said he wanted to invite the mother of two to boost intercultural ties.
"For me, she is my fellow Malaysian, and I'm proud of her achievement in the short span of time she has been experimenting as a newbie YouTuber," he said on Thursday (May 21).
Norizanuddin, who manages the Madrasah Tahfiz Baitul Nur in Alor Gajah town, said he had to defer the Hari Raya celebration to the end of the year, probably December, due to the conditional movement control order (MCO).
"I will organise a low-key celebration after the Covid-19 pandemic when it's no longer a health threat.
"Sugu Pavirthra could help to coach my volunteers in preparing delicious curry dishes for the Hari Raya gathering, especially fish head servings," he said.
Norizanuddin said he was happy to see a fellow citizen attaining Internet stardom.
"I like to watch the modest way of her presentation that has propelled her from a humble housewife to a celebrity," he said.
He said he grew up in a multicultural neighbourhood.
"There were times when my family had to share food with Chinese and Indian neighbours due to our poverty back then.
"Furthermore, my religion teaches me to be fair to all without looking at their status, race, religion or ancestry," he added.
S. Pavithra, 28, from Buntong, Ipoh has carved a niche on the video-sharing platform by sharing her cooking skills.
