Police detain 238 people in raid on illegal camp in Hulu Selangor

HULU SELANGOR: A total of 238 Malaysians, including 85 children, were detained by the police when an illegal camp in Ulu Rening here was raided by the police on Tuesday (April 28) afternoon.

"This group is known as the Dewan Perkasa Ekonomi Islam Nusantara. As of now, all have their ICs. They are all Malaysians,” said Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Fadzil Ahmat.

Speaking after the joint raid at 4pm by a combined team from the Selangor contingent headquarters and the Hulu Selangor district headquarters, he said that the group was made up of 76 men, 77 women and 85 children.

"They came from several states, including Pahang, Kuala Lumpur and Perak," he said, adding that all are currently being held at a hall in the area for further documentation and investigation.

SAC Fadzil added that the reason why all were staying at the camp is being probed, and said that the case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988.
