Covid-19 update: 31 new cases, one new death makes it 100 fatalities

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll reached the 100 mark, after the country reported one new death on Tuesday (Apr 28).

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this takes the country’s mortality rate to 1.7%.

At the Health Ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conference here, Dr Noor Hisham also announced 31 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 5,851.

Malaysia also discharged 75 more patients in the same 24-hour span, which means 4,032 patients have recovered from Covid-19 since the outbreak began in the country.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 68.91% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are only 1,719 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities at present.

There are currently 36 patients being treated at intensive care units (ICU) with 17 on ventilator support.

On the new death case, Dr Noor Hisham said the 100th fatality is a 67-year-old man with a history of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and stroke.

He had been receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital since April 4 and was pronounced dead at 9.40am on April 28.

Malaysia is currently in the last day of the movement control order (MCO)’s third phase.

Last week, the government announced the MCO has been extended to a fourth phase set to end on May 12.
