Covid-19: 51 new cases, 99 recovered, death toll at 98

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia reported 51 more Covid-19 cases on Saturday (April 25), bringing the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 5,742.

Malaysia also discharged 99 more patients in the same 24-hour span, which means 3,762 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 65.5% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are only 1,882 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities at present, Dr Noor Hisham said during the Ministry’s daily Covid-19 media briefing on Saturday evening.

There are currently 36 patients being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 16 on ventilator support.

Dr Hisham also announced two new Covid-19 fatalities in the country, taking Malaysia’s death toll to 98.

The deceased, a Malaysian man and Malaysian woman, were both 62 and have a history of chronic diseases.

Malaysia is currently in its 38th day of the movement control order (MCO), where people are instructed to stay at home and movement and business operations are heavily restricted.

On Thursday (April 23), Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the MCO would be extended to May 12.
