MACC: Corruption reports still coming in during MCO

    

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received 22 reports of corruption during the movement control order (MCO) period.

The MACC said up until April 21, it had also received 286 pieces of information relating to graft as well.

In a statement on Wednesday (April 22), the MACC also said three suspects were arrested in two separate cases during the MCO period.

"Two Pakistani men were arrested in Kota Kinabalu after they had tried to bribe an enforcement agency personnel with RM7,000. The bribe was to avoid action taken against them for allegedly smuggling cigarettes," it said

The second case occurred in Johor, where a store owner offered police officers RM500 to turn a blind eye at him for operating his business without permission.

"The MACC congratulates the enforcement agencies on the frontline for being strict against criminals and bribers,"it said.

The MACC also that that investigations are still being conducted despite the MCO.

"Our investigations continue despite the limiting factors of the MCO. It is being done in adherence to existing MCO guidelines and standard operating procedures.

"MACC offices are still open nationwide with a minimum number of officers taking turns on duty to act on information obtained," it said.
