MCO? Cops investigating viral video of carnival-like celebration in Sepang

SHAH ALAM: Police have opened investigations into a gathering of foreigners in a carnival-like atmosphere at Sepang.

A 34-minute video of showing dozens of people gathered and dancing to music outside a factory has been making its rounds on social media.

The foreigners were believed to be from Myanmar, and were allegedly defying the movement control order (MCO) to celebrate the Songkhran festival.

Selangor Covid-19 special spokesman Asst Comm Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew confirmed the case, adding that a police report had been lodged over the incident.

"We are investigating the case for unlawfully spreading a life-threatening disease under Section 269 of the Penal Code.

"We have yet to make any arrests, but investigations are ongoing," he said.

Meanwhile, on online scams involving the sale of face masks in Selangor, ACP Muhammad Yazid said 20 suspects have already been arrested.

"We have opened 144 investigation papers involving such scams in the state which resulted in RM1.5mil in losses," he said.

He said police were aware of unscrupulous individuals who were preying on the high demand of these items in order to make money illegally.

"Our advice is for anyone who is interested in making online purchases to do so via trusted channels.

"The public can also go to http://ccid.rmp.gov.my/semakmule to cross check the account details of the seller they are dealing with," he said.
