Only police, Armed Forces allowed to don Op Penawar 2020 insignia, says Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will not hesitate to take action against anyone found selling and buying T-shirts and face masks bearing the Op Penawar 2020 insignia.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said police have come across such promotions on social media and are advising the public to not be taken in by such offers.

"Only police and members of the Armed Forces are allowed to wear those articles of clothing and it is an offence to openly promote the T-shirts and face masks with the insignia for sale," he said.

Comm Huzir said those found guilty of the offence can face a RM500 fine or a six-month jail term or both under Section 89(b) of the Police Act 1967 for unlawful possession, manufacture, sale or supply of articles supplied to police officers and unauthorised use of police uniforms.

He added offenders may also face another RM50,000 fine or a jail term not exceeding one year under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

Op Penawar 2020 is the operation codename for the Armed Forces and police in enforcing the movement control order (MCO) to stem the spread of Covid-19.
