SIBU: Five men have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in illegal cockfighting and defying the movement control order (MCO) in Mukah on Tuesday (April 7).

Mukah OCPD Dept Supt Jimmy Panyau said a police team went to Jalan Ulu Bayan at about 3.10pm to check on illegal cockfighting.

"The five men, aged between 53 and 71, were arrested," he said.

The police also seized three live roosters, one dead rooster, 18 plastic chairs, a plastic table, a wooden table, a weighing machine, a cock fighting spur and RM137 in cash.

The case is being investigated under Regulation 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 and Section 3(1) Cruelty to Animal Act 1962.

Meanwhile, Supt Jimmy urged Mukah residents to just stay at home and abide by the MCO.

"We will not hesitate to take action against those who are caught violating the MCO," he warned.
