KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two more deaths from Covid-19 on Monday (March 30), bringing the number of fatalities in the state to seven.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the patients died at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here and Miri Hospital respectively.

He said the state also reported six new positive cases on Monday, adding that three are being treated at SGH, two at Miri Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital.

The cumulative total of positive cases in Sarawak now stands at 135 since Mar 13, while nine patients have been discharged from hospital so far.

Uggah also clarified that those involved in essential services can continue to travel between districts without a permit.

However, he said others were required to obtain a permit from their respective district or Resident's office if they had a valid reason to travel, such as an emergency.

"For those not involved in essential services, we ask them to stay at home. Don't travel from district to district without a good reason.

"When we don't go out, we can help to break the transmission of the virus from one place to another.

"So during this time, I appeal to everyone to endure (the MCO) for the safety of all, including their immediate family," he told a press conference after chairing a state disaster management committee meeting on Monday (March 30).

The committee had decided on Sunday (March 29) to ban inter-district travel, but said that an exemption would be given in cases of an emergency, whereby a permit must be obtained from the district office.
