MELAKA: The Melaka government is opening another Covid-19 quarantine centre at Tiang Dua in Jasin here to house people under investigation (PUI).

The current quarantine centre – the Public Works Department's training complex at Alor Gajah – has reached its maximum capacity of 173 PUIs.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali said the new centre managed by the state Road Transport Department is expected to open on Tuesday (March 31).

"This is an additional centre for Melaka," he said on Sunday (March 29).

Sulaiman also said the state government would fund the procurement of standing fans, hand sanitisers and Vitamin C pills for frontliners.

He also said that the state has allocated RM10,000 for Melaka Hospital as well as RM3,500 each for Jasin and Alor Gajah hospitals for meals during the movement control order (MCO) period.

Sulaiman said RM5,000 has been set aside for food supply purposes to PUIs at the Covid-19 centre in Alor Gajah.

He said RM2,000 each will be also channelled to Melaka Tengah, Jasin and Alor Gajah police contingents to buy meals for its frontliners during the MCO period.
