Enhanced MCO only announced once details finalised, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) will only be announced once the National Security Council and relevant ministries fine-tune the details, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defence Minister however assured the public that it is not a full lockdown or state of emergency.

"I will announce it once we have worked out the details. I stress that it is not lockdown or 'darurat' (emergency)," he told a special press conference on Saturday (March 28).

He reminded the public not to be influenced by fake news on lockdowns or emergencies as it can lead to chaos, including panic buying.

"We are considering several measures for EMCO, including limiting operation hours for shops and supermarkets.

"When such things are proposed, discussions with relevant ministries must be done. For example, for factory operations, we have to discuss thoroughly with the ministry in charge before anything is decided," he added.
