13-year-old fishing enthusiast among those nabbed for defying MCO

KULAI: A 13-year-old boy was among four people arrested for disobeying the movement control order (MCO) by going out fishing at a bridge at Sungai Hutan Lesong, Kampung Teluk Tanjung Sedili in Kota Tinggi.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Ahsmon Bajah said that the suspects, between the ages of 13 and 42, were arrested by a team conducting a patrol in the area.

“The four were found fishing on the bridge at around 9.45pm on Friday (March 27) but were caught after trying to run away, ” he said on Saturday (March 28).

Supt Ahsmon added that the suspects were currently under remand for four days starting until March 31.

In another incident, police arrested six allegedly intoxicated men for disobeying the MCO.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said the suspects, between the ages 19 and 40, were arrested at various location within the district during a patrol by police and other enforcement agencies between 11.30pm Friday and 1.50am Saturday.

He added that all suspects were being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in discharge of his duty.

“This carries a fine of up RM10,000 as well as a jail sentence of up to two years," he said.

He added that they were also being investigated under Section 22(B) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (PCID) Act 1988.

Supt Tok said the suspects were under remand until March 31.
