Jakim postpones Tilawah, Al-Quran recital ceremony due to Covid-19

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has announced that the Tilawah and Al-Quran recital ceremony (MTHQA) International level year 1141H/2020M will be postponed due the Covid-19 pandemic.

The MTHQA, which was scheduled to take place from April 6 to 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, will be delayed to a date which will be announced later, said Jakim director-general Datuk Paimuzi Yahya.

The announcement was made in a press statement issued Saturday (March 14).

“This is in line with the government’s decision to delay all assemblies including events involving domestic and foreign participation, due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

“As a notification, MTHQA, which is managed by Jakim, is an annual national event that began 61 years ago. This event is participated by more than 60 countries across the world in order to listen to the readings and recitals of the holy words of the al-Quran al-Karim, ” he said.
