FT mufti’s appointment to Cabinet well received

PETALING JAYA: Newly minted Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri (pic), who is popularly known for his moderate stance, received all-round support from the public.

Lawyer and DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary Syahredzan Johan has welcomed the former Federal Territories mufti’s appointment into the new Cabinet.

“This is a good appointment, ” posted Syahredzan on his Twitter yesterday.

Zulkifli is known for building bridges between races and religions, including his act of giving cakes to his Chinese neighbours that had won praise from the general public.

Zulkifli is also known to be a Liverpool fan and draws from examples of the team in delivering his words of wisdom on social media.

A user on social media, Wadi Razan, congratulated Zulkifli on his appointment.

“Congratulation to Dr Zulkifli for being appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs). PAS...what happened to your scholars?” asked Wadi.

In a Facebook posting, Zulkifli called on Malaysians to help him build the country, regardless of their religion or race, and assured them he would continue his predecessor’s legacy.
