Bersatu pledge support for Dr M as PM

PUTRAJAYA: Bersatu has continued to pledge their support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister, but stopped short of saying if they will return to Pakatan Harapan.

Bersatu information chief Radzi Jidin said all its MPs have expressed their support for Dr Mahathir in their audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Wednesday morning (Feb 26).

"All our MPs had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to express our support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the Prime Minister. Members of Bersatu are urged to remain calm and fully confident towards the party's leadership in managing the current political situation.

"We are confident that the political situation can be resolved soon. Our party and country will emerge stronger and more united under Dr Mahathir's leadership," said Radzi in a statement.

Bersatu leaders Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir were seen leaving Istana Negara after having an audience with the King on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night (Feb 25), Bersatu Youth (Armada) also declared its support for Dr Mahathir to stay on as Prime Minister.

Armada said it also rejects the “en-bloc” cooperation with Umno under the leadership of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to form a new government.

On Monday (Feb 24), Bersatu announced that it had left the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

It has 26 MPs.

On the same day, Dr Mahathir announced his resignation as Prime Minister, followed by his stepping down as Bersatu chairman.

Bersatu's supreme council then met that night and announced that it had rejected Dr Mahathir's resignation as the party chairman.
