PETALING JAYA: With Pakatan Harapan's rule said to be in peril due to talk that it may have lost its majority in the Dewan Rakyat, there is intense speculation on how the balance of power has shifted.
In the 222-seat parliament, a simple majority needed to form government is 112 seats.
Before the current situation emerged, Pakatan Harapan along with its partners Warisan and Upko had a total of 139 seats:
There are numerous possible scenarios where Pakatan could lose its majority, which include the following:
* If only Bersatu (26) pulls out, Pakatan will be left with 113 seats. Pakatan will still be in power.
* If Bersatu pulls out together with at least a dozen PKR MPs including Azmin and his close supporters, Pakatan will be left with 101 seats. Pakatan will lose power.
* If Bersatu pulls out together with at least a dozen PKR MPs as well as Warisan (9) and Upko (1), Pakatan will be left with just 91 seats. Pakatan will lose power.
* If Bersatu pulls out, and at least a dozen PKR MPs, Warisan, Upko as well as all of the MPs from Umno (39), PAS (18), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (18) get together, the new alliance will have 123 seats, enough to form government.
