Najib, Rosmah quizzed by MACC over audio recordings (updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Just hours after giving their statements at Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor were quizzed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over leaked audio recordings.

They arrived at the MACC Academy at 3pm on Friday (Feb 21) in two cars and were in the building for about an hour before leaving at 4.05pm.

Neither vehicle stopped for them to address the press outside.

According to Rosmah's lawyer Rajivan Nambiar, they were not told if additional statements from Najib and Rosmah would be required.

Previously, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said that the former prime minister and his wife would be called back before the end of the month for statements into certain audio recordings revealed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last month.

At a press conference on Jan 8, the MACC revealed a series of nine audio recordings of high-ranking officials, including Najib, alleging this was a "criminal conspiracy at the highest level".

The MACC alleged that another recording was of Rosmah and Najib, in which Rosmah was heard expressing her displeasure over a certain matter related to MACC investigations.

Among other individuals that the MACC identified in the audio recordings were former MACC chief Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, former Tabung Haji chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, and Najib's former principal private secretary Tan Sri Shukry Mohd Salleh.

The recordings are said to have been made between Jan 5, 2016, and July 29, 2016.
