Sarawak bars entry to foreigners with recent travel history to China

Sarawak tightens immigration control to prevent Wuhan coronovirus from coming into the state from entry points such as airports.

MIRI: Sarawak has barred entry to all foreigners who have travelled to China in the past 14 days.

This is to ensure that the novel coronovirus (2019-nCoV) does not spread to Sarawak, the State Disaster Relief Management Committee said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 5).

Additionally, Malaysians who are not Sarawak residents who have been to China in the past 14 days are strongly advised not to come to Sarawak, unless they have quarantined themselves outside Sarawak and are confirmed free from the coronavirus.

It also said that all Sarawakians, Sarawak permanent residents, those with working permit pass and student visas who had been to China in the past 14 days must undergo compulsory 14-day home quarantine period.

It added that they would be subject to random health checks and could only be allowed to move around after being confirmed to be free from the coronavirus.

Sarawak has autonomous control over its immigration policies, as stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
