Soo hopes to inspire youth to study hard

SINGER-actress Dr Soo Wincci (pic) hopes to inspire youth through her academic achievements, Sinar Harian reported.

Soo, 35, said she wants to continue pursuing her second PhD in artistic production at the University of Polytechnic, Spain.

“When I was applying to continue my PhD in Spain and produced my degrees as a back-up, they thought I was a scammer for having too many degrees.

“They investigated thoroughly the origin of the certificates and after five months, I was accepted into the university,” she said.

She acknowledged that there were many things she had to give up in Malaysia in order to pursue her academic dreams.

“I know it is a big risk. It is a big sacrifice to make. I wanted to give up at one point,” she said.

However, Soo said she would persist despite the many challenges faced.

> Somewhere in central Perak, a type of Hungarian fried bread known as langos is available for market-goers.

It is sold by Hungarian Barak Nobert during the morning and night markets in several areas in Bota, Harian Metro reported.

Known to the locals as Adam Abdullah, he speaks Bahasa Malaysia fluently with a Perakian slang, making him popular among his customers.

Adam, 36, has been selling the fried bread at various locations such as Kampung Gajah, Seri Iskandar Universiti Teknologi Mara campus, Tapah, as well as in Bota every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday for the past four years.

“I fell in love with the kampung lifestyle here and apart from farming, I also rear chickens at home,” he said.

Both he and his wife Elsuraya Mohamed, 49, have been selling the bread for four years.

Apart from langos, the couple also sells cendol and pulut panggang using their own recipe.
