DAP Keranji rep maintains Kampar govt hospital plans hijacked

IPOH: Keranji assemblyman Chong Zhemin (pic) has changed his tune after alleging that the MCA misappropriated funds meant to build a hospital in Kampar, but maintains that it hijacked the government's plan to build a government hospital in order to build a private hospital.

In a statement on Wednesday (Jan 8), he said he stood by his allegation, despite the statement made by the Health Ministry which debunked his claims.

"The Health Ministry’s statement yesterday that the RM150mil, as announced by then Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in 2012, was never disbursed does not contradict my allegation that MCA hijacked Kampar government hospital to build the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital.

Chong had, on Jan 2, alleged that the MCA had misappropriated RM150mil meant for the construction of the new Kampar district hospital, which he claimed was replaced by the party's plan for a private hospital in collaboration with UTAR.

On Tuesday (Jan 7), the Health Ministry issued a statement debunking Chong’s claim, noting that the funds were being held by the Finance Ministry.

Perak MCA Public Service and Complaints Bureau chief Low Guo Nan lodged a report over the matter at the district police station today.

Chong said he was prepared to go to court over the matter.
