PETALING JAYA: Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic) said that as of Friday (Dec 27), he has yet to receive any letter of resignation from Tan Sri Apandi Ali.
"Checks show that there is no such resignation letter. Apandi is currently overseas," said Annuar when contacted.
He added that Umno would make an official announcement if necessary.
On Dec 26, Apandi, the former attorney general, announced that he would resign his post as Umno disciplinary board chairman.
He was reported by Astro Awani as saying that his decision was over the postponement of a disciplinary proceeding against former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
The disciplinary proceeding against the former defence minister was to take place on Dec 26, following supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam's report alleging that Hishammuddin had tried to be a "middleman" to get Umno lawmakers to support the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Star reported that on July 30, a group of Opposition leaders, including Hishamuddin, held a "secret meeting" with Dr Mahathir at his residence to discuss retaining the latter for a full term.
