KUALA LUMPUR: The planned gathering by Chinese associations over the Jawi calligraphy issue will further divide the country, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Prime Minister said educationist group Dong Jiao Zong’s plans would sow ethnic tension.
He said the Malays would then have their own gathering and talk about closing down Chinese schools.
“You do that kind of thing, you will get a reaction.
“If you start making attacks against other races or going against the Constitution, the end result will be chaos.
“We are a multiracial country – it is important for us to be considerate about other people’s feelings, ” he told reporters after visiting the media centre at the Kuala Lumpur Summit yesterday.
Dong Jiao Zong, the umbrella body comprising Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees’ Association) and Jiao Zong (United Chinese School Teachers’ Association), is planning the gathering on Dec 28 over the move to introduce Jawi calligraphy into vernacular schools.
