SEREMBAN: The Kuala Lumpur Summit, which starts on Wednesday (Dec 18), brings new hope for the Islamic world which is currently facing many challenges, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic).
The Umno deputy president said that all parties should support this initiative being held to find solutions to the existing problems.
"There will be many leaders, thinkers, bureaucrats and businessmen from all over the world at the meeting, which will discuss and look for measures to help resolve the many problems being faced by the Islamic world.
"This is a very important meeting at a time when Muslims are divided, lacking leadership as well as faced with political, economic and social problems," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 17).
Mohamad said the challenges facing the Islamic world was a global problem, and has to be looked into immediately.
"The summit is visionary, forward-thinking and being held at the right time.
"As such, all Muslim nations have to show solidarity and propose solutions to address problems faced by our communities," he said.
The KL Summit 2019, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Dec 18 to 21, will, among others, seek new solutions for problems affecting the Islamic world and contribute towards improving the situation for Muslims and Muslim countries.
It is also aimed at forging a network among Muslim leaders, intellectuals, scholars and thinkers.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the chairman of the summit.
The Emir of Qatar, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani are among the notable Islamic leaders expected to join the summit.
