PETALING JAYA: The committee members of three out of the nine organisations believed to be involved in the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Hat Yai Peace Accord in Kajang have been hauled up by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
RoS said it has taken action against the three organisations by issuing a notice under Section 66 of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 335) for its committee members to explain their involvement at the commemoration ceremony.
The RoS noted that the other six organisations have also been identified to have taken part in the commemoration ceremony, adding that it was not a registered organisation.
"These organisations are deemed to be an "unlawful organisation" under Section 41 (1)(b) and Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 (Act 335).
"Section 43 states that any person found to be a member of any unlawful organisation is committing a crime and if found guilty is subjected to imprisonment," it said in a statement on Friday (Dec 13).
RoS added that every registered organisation must carry out its activities and affairs in accordance with the provisions in its registered constitution as well as the Societies Act 1966 (Act 335).
It was reported that former members of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) had met in Kajang in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Hat Yai Peace Accord on Dec 1.
The Hat Yai Peace Accord was signed on Dec 2,1989, by the Malaysian government and the CPM.
