MELAKA: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail shared a touching story with delegates at the National Congress here about how much she appreciated a 50 sen donation from an elderly woman during the early days of the party.
The PKR advisory board chairman said the sincerity of the "makcik" and not the sum donated, reflected how the grassroots wanted the party to champion their cause with honesty.
"The sincerity manifested by the elderly woman can never be bought with money and I want to remind the current generation of party members to be genuine in their endeavours to serve the party and people.
"We must focus on building the country and not fight among ourselves and going astray from our party's fundamental cause," she said at the Melaka International Trade Center on Sunday (Dec 8).
Wan Azizah acknowledged there was an existing misunderstanding between PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and certain leaders but hoped that this would not derail the party's agenda to focus on the growth of the nation and its service to the people.
"I want to also remind everyone that we mustn't let our positions, wealth and current strength make us forget our (party's) humble beginnings," she said.
Wan Azizah said she was also open to any criticism from the grassroots and would make an effort to improve herself.
