THE government should give an assurance that it will not change the basic framework of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) examination system, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng.
The Tanjung Piai MP also urged the government to assure the people that the UEC would continue to be handled by Dong Zong.
“What are the steps taken to reduce misunderstanding, concerns and doubts by certain parties against the UEC when the Pakatan Harapan government promised to recognise the certificate to enter degree programmes at higher learning institutions all over the world?
“Will the UEC of the Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School be accepted as the national education system?” he asked while debating Budget 2020 for the Education Ministry.
Wee also questioned if the government was still committed to recognising the UEC and whether the UEC Task Force was formed to make it easier to implement Pakatan’s promise under its election manifesto.
Later, the Dewan Rakyat passed Budget 2020 with a simple voice vote after 15 days of debates.
Budget 2020, totalling RM297bil, was tabled on Oct 11 by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.
