Paul Yong urges supporters to support Perak DAP leadership

IPOH: Perak executive council member Paul Yong Choo Kiong has urged his supporters and party members to remain supportive of the state party leadership.

In a press statement issued on Thursday (Nov 21), Yong said he had given his undivided support to the state party committee led by chairman and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Nga Kor Ming, and he urged his followers to do the same.

“This statement is made to clear up any false impression or perception that is being created by certain quarters.

“I have always given my undivided support to the state party led by Nga and will continue to do so, ” he said.

“I also urge all my supporters and comrades to do the same, so that the whole party can come together to focus on delivering the best service to our country and the people, ” he added.

His statement came in the wake of an audio clip, purportedly by a state party leader, who criticised Yong for cancelling his leave and resuming his duties as a state exco member without consulting the state party leadership.

Yong resumed his official duties last Friday, saying that his decision was supported by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and that it was not necessary to discuss it with the party.

Yong, who had claimed trial to a rape charge, had gone on leave in August.

He thanked the state party committee for their trust and confidence in him.

“The full solidarity expressed by the state committee led by Nga is truly and deeply appreciated.

“I sincerely believe there is no ‘black hand’ from within the state party leadership with regard to my case, and as such I urge all parties to stand together to fight against the real culprit who has a hand in my case, ” he added.
