Tanjung Piai MP Md Farid Md Rafik dies


JOHOR BARU: Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik (pic) has passed away in Pontian Hospital due to a heart attack at around 6am on Saturday (Sept 21). He was 43.

He was also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Unity and Social Harmony.

Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Mazlan Bujang, who confirmed the matter, said he was shocked to hear about Dr Md Farid's passing.

"I received a phone call notifying me about Dr Md Farid's death.

"He was at his mother's house in Serkat when the incident happen," he said, adding that he was on his way to Pontian to pay his last respects.

It is learnt that the funeral will take place after zohor prayers where Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to pay his last respects.

In the last general election, Bersatu's Dr Md Farid, who is a medical doctor, beat MCA's Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and PAS' Nordin Othman with a majority of 524 votes.
