JOHOR BARU: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has conveyed his condolences to the family of Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik (pic) over his sudden passing.
The former Johor Mentri Besar posted his condolences on his Facebook page.
"May his soul be placed among the believers. Al-Fatihah," he said.
Meanwhile, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong also expressed his condolences to the family of Dr Farid.
“Dr Farid is a young and talented leader. His passing is a great loss to the country. My condolences to his entire family,” said Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA chairman, in a Facebook posting on Saturday.
Dr Md Farid passed away at the Pontian Hospital due to a heart attack at around 6am on Saturday (Sept 21). He was 43.
He was a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Unity and Social Harmony.
It is learnt that the funeral will take place after zohor prayers, with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad expected to pay his last respects.
In the last general election, Parti Bersatu Pribumi Malaysia's Dr Md Farid, who is a medical doctor, beat MCA's Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and PAS' Nordin Othman with a majority of 524 votes.
