Special stamps and coins to mark momentous day

PETALING JAYA: Pos Malaysia Bhd will issue special stamps to commemorate the installation of Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The collection will be made available to the public tomorrow at all post offices nationwide.

“Get this collection at all post offices nationwide or online at www.eziemall.com starting July 31, ” Pos Malaysia Bhd said on its website.

The commemorative stamps will feature a collection of portraits of Sultan Abdullah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Today has been declared a public holiday in conjunction with the King’s installation.

Meanwhile, the King and Queen received special commemorative coins from Bank Negara Malaysia.

The special coins, issued in conjunction with the installation, were presented by Bank Negara governor Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus at Istana Negara yesterday.

According to Bank Negara currency management and operations department director Azman Mat Lai, the royal couple were presented with three special commemorative coins made of gold, sterling silver and nordic gold respectively.

“All of the coins have the King’s portrait engraved on the observe side and the Malaysian Coat of Arms on the reverse side.

“They were carefully engraved by highly skilled artists and minted by Kilang Wang Bank Negara, ” he told Bernama and RTM after the presentation of the coins to their Majesties.

Azman added that only 300 gold coins, 1, 500 silver coins and 15, 000 nordic gold coins would be minted for the purpose and made available to the public.

Orders can be placed on Bank Negara’s website from mid-August.
