Firemen find murdered couple in house deliberately set on fire

NILAI: An elderly couple was found dead with several injuries in a double-storey house which seems to have been deliberately set ablaze in Taman Desa Melati near here last night.

Nilai OCPD Supt Nor Marzukee Besar said firemen who rushed to the scene at around  9.20pm on Wednesday (July 24) found the lifeless bodies of Tan Kim Joo and his wife Ng Chong Hwa, both 67, in separate areas.

"The front grille and door were locked from inside, but when the firemen went to the back, they found the door was unlocked.

"Tan had injuries to his left wrist, forehead and right arm.

"The wife had two stab wounds on her chest and left wrist," he said, adding that Tan was a retired engineer while his wife was teacher.

He said Tan's body was found in the kitchen and Ng's in the storeroom.

Supt Nor Marzukee said checks showed that the fire started in a room that had been converted into a gym.

He said the preliminary probe showed that the couple had been living in the house for a decade.

The case has been classified as murder under section 302 of the Penal Code.
