Zahid: No more working with DAP 'cohorts' under new Umno-PAS pact

KUALA LUMPUR: To ensure the unity of Malays and Muslims under the new Umno-PAS pact, there will be no working with anyone who is in cohorts with DAP, says Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"We feel that the agenda of DAP is being implemented through the smooth dissemination of the 'Malaysian Malaysia' agenda.

"This is done through the policies of the ministries headed by DAP members, when they should be prioritising the national agenda," he claimed.

The "Malaysian Malaysia" concept championed by DAP rejects racial supremacy, which Umno claims erodes the Malay rights and privileges accorded by the Federal Constitution.

Umno and PAS had a loose political cooperation before the last general election and has made the pact official in recent months in the name of uniting the Malays and Muslims.

Ahmad Zahid further said that he only had the mandate to liaise with parties that are willing to cooperate with Umno on any matter pertaining to the unity of Malays and Muslims.

"The president has the mandate to cooperate with any party – as long as that party is not in cohorts with DAP in any way. We say no to DAP 100%," said Ahmad Zahid after an Umno supreme council meeting at its headquarters here on Wednesday (July 24).

He added that he has the right to use his own wisdom, as long as it does not go against what has been decided by the Umno supreme council.
