MELAKA: A comedian fondly known as the “Malaysian Simran” has died after slipping in the toilet at her brother's house here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afnizar Ahmad said M. Rajaletchumi, 39, passed away at her brother's house at Taman Cheng Perdana at about 8.40am on Monday (July 15).

Her 37-year-old husband has also lodged a police report in Kuala Lumpur over the death.

Rajaletchumi shot to stardom in the local Tamil film industry when she acted alongside with comedian T. Ramesh and Ghana in Hello Yaar Pesuratu (Hello, Who Is Talking), a locally produced Tamil comedy that was screened in late 2000.

She was nicknamed after Kollywood diva “Simran”, who was a popular actress in the early 2000s.
