PETALING JAYA: The country's biggest pet expo returns for the 12th consecutive year, with lots more to offer in terms of products and services.

Pet World Malaysia 2019 opened its doors on Friday (June 28) for a three-day extravaganza at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

More than 200 vendors of pet related products and services are participating this year.

The event, organised by Fairs and Events Management Sdn Bhd (FEMSB), is a hit with pet owners who are able to buy pet food and accessories at a much cheaper price directly from the supplier or manufacturers.

This year, 20% of vendors are overseas pet food and accessories manufacturers and distributors.

Chief executive officer of FEMSB, Jonathan Kan, said this year's event has also been digitalised to keep up with the current trends.

"We have included an e-wallet system for payments, as well as created a platform to promote e-commerce," he added.

According to Kan, this years event has also met the requirements set by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) to qualify as an international level event.

"As 20% of our vendors are from overseas, we have met the mark as an international event," said Kan.

As its practice every year, FEMSB has also provide several free booths for animal welfare groups under its corporate social responsibility umbrella.

This year's beneficiaries are Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better, PAWS Animal Welfare Society and SPCA Selangor, among others.

MDDB events manager Derene Lee said they were grateful to FEMSB a platform to highlight what they do as well as raise the much needed funds.

"We bring some of our dogs here yearly, as they enjoy all the attention and treats they get," said Lee.

Besides a wide range of products, the event will also feature a cat show and dog agility and obedience competition.

Visitors can bring along their pets to enjoy the exciting activities lined up.

Pet World is a must-visit for pet parents due to the discounted prices offered by pet food distributors, including premium brands.

They will also be able to obtain whatever they need under the same roof at competitive prices.

The three-day exhibition will be open from 10am to 9pm daily until Sunday (June 30).
