IGP expresses condolences over passing of former Pahang Sultan


PETALING JAYA: The country's top cop has conveyed his condolences to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah over the death of His Majesty's father.

"On behalf of the Royal Malaysian Police, we pass our condolences to The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah over the passing," he said in a statement released on Wednesday (May 22).

He added that he police would lend any assistance to ensure the funeral procession runs smoothly.

Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail earlier announced that Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mu'adzam Shah, 88, died at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at about 8.50am on Wednesday.

Sultan Ahmad Shah ascended the throne to become the Sultan of Pahang on May 7, 1974, and served as the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1979 to 1984.

Sultan Ahmad Shah's eldest son, Al-Sultan Abdullah, was subsequently proclaimed Sultan of Pahang on Jan 15, 2019, paving the way for him to become the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
