KUALA LUMPUR: Sept 29 will henceforth be observed as Malaysia Professionals Day (Hari Ikhtisas), says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister made the announcement while officiating the Professional Conference & Exhibition 2026 (Profex 2026) at the KLGCC Convention Centre here on Tuesday (Sept 29).
"I wish Profex 2026 every success in bringing professionals together to transform Malaysia's future. It is a big ambition.
"I hereby declare Sept 29 as Hari Ikhtisas Malaysia," he said at the end of his speech.
Earlier, Anwar said he agreed to the proposal to designate Sept 29 as Professionals Day as there was a clear rationale for bringing professionals from various fields together.
He said the strength of the professionals community lay in its diversity across disciplines, races and regions.
Anwar said professionals bodies could bring together expertise from different fields and strengthen cooperation across the country.
He also called on professionals to contribute their expertise towards national development and to help generate new ideas and solutions.
Profex 2026, organised by Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (BIM), is being held on Sept 29 and 30 under the theme "Uniting Professions, Transforming Malaysia's Future".
BIM, which was established in 1973 with assistance from the Commonwealth Foundation, serves as an umbrella body for professional organisations in Malaysia.
Its members come from a wide range of fields, including medicine, engineering, architecture, surveying, planning, science, agriculture, logistics and internal auditing.
