Man commits suicide in car at Miri Hospital

MIRI: A 41-year old man died after using exhaust fumes from his own car to gas himself to death as he locked himself inside the vehicle at the Miri Hospital compound.

The incident happened at about 10pm on Tuesday night (April 23).

On Wednesday, Miri police chief Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah said police probe had concluded that it was a case of suicide.

"The man took video of himself inside the car as he was about to commit suicide and sent it to his wife.

"The police rushed to the scene after being alerted. It was the son who found the man inside the car," he said.

ACP Lim said there was a connection to channel exhaust fumes from the car into the cabin.

Police found the car locked from inside and had to force open the door.

They found the man already unconscious. He was rushed to the emergency unit nearby and was later pronounced dead.

ACP Lim said the case have been confirmed as suicide as the police probe found no foul play involved.

Nevertheless, a post-mortem will still be carried out on the deceased, he added.
