Parliament observes moment of silence for late Sandakan MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Parliament observed a moment of silence for the late Sandakan lawmaker Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt, who died of a heart attack earlier Thursday.

Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Nga Kor Ming said Wong's contribution and sacrifices to the august House and the country were large and appreciated.

“His passing is a big loss to the nation and especially the Dewan Rakyat.

“The Parliament would like to extend our condolences to Wong's wife and his family,” said Nga.

Wong collapsed in his car after he went on a hike at the Tambaig Adventure Park in Kg Duvanson, Putatan, near here on Thursday.

He was rushed to a hospital's emergency unit, however, doctors failed to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 12.15pm.

He was also the state's Health and People's Well-being Minister.

He had contested against Lim Ming Hoo from the LDP in the 14th General Election, garnering 19,094 votes against the latter's 8,996.
