KUALA LUMPUR: Vietnamese murder accused Doan Thi Huong was taken for psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Kuala Lumpur following claims she was under stress after the release of her former co-accused Indonesian Siti Aisyah.

The 30-year-old arrived at the hospital in a prison van amid tight police security at 9.15am yesterday.

Her lawyer Salim Bashir said she was taken to the hospital for observation.

“She spent about three hours at the hospital and was taken back to the prison,” he said.

Siti Aisyah, 27, and Doan were charged with four others still at large with the murder of North Korean Kim Chol or Kim Jong-nam at the KLIA2 departure hall at 9am

on Feb 13, 2017

On Thursday, the Shah Alam High Court adjourned the trial to April 1 after the defence said that Doan was not fit to take the stand.

Lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik informed the court that Doan was under stress and could only sleep an hour at night after the release of Siti Aisyah.

The Indonesian was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on Monday after the prosecution was instructed to withdraw the case against her.

Justice Azmi Ariffin said the accused must be allowed an opportunity to be attended to by a doctor and adjourned the proceedings.

The charge provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
