Thirteen schools in Pasir Gudang closed indefinitely due to chemical pollution


JOHOR BARU: A total of 13 schools in Pasir Gudang affected by the chemical pollution will close indefinitely from Wednesday (March 13).

The schools affected are SK Taman Pasir Putih, SMK Taman Pasir Putih, SK Pasir Putih, Sk Tanjung Puteri Resort, SMK Tanjung Puteri Resort, SK Kota Masai, SMK Kota Masai, SK Kota Masai 2, SMK Kota Masai 2, SK Kota Masai 3, SK Perigi Acheh, Sekolah Agama Kampung Pasir Putih and Sekolah Agama Taman Pasir Putih.

Johor Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman Dr Sahruddin Jamal said that that the state government via its disaster management committee was also activated Tuesday (March 12) to coordinate and monitor the situation.

"The committee also agreed to appoint a licensed contractor to carry out clean up works in the affected area," he said urging the public not to enter the affected area.

He also advised the public who experience eye irritation or breathing problems to seek immediate medical treatment.

"The public should also use treated water for their daily activities," he said, adding that the public around the area should also bathe regularly and wash their clothes separately.

Dr Sahruddin also advised the public from carrying out any activities near the Kim Kim River in Pasir Gudang.
