Calls for news portals to moderate comments not meant to stifle free speech, claims Gobind

PETALING JAYA: Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo says that his call for news portals to moderate comments on their social media sites is not meant to stifle freedom of speech but rather to maintain decorum and avoid expressions which promote inflammatory remarks.

"Today's portals provide news and also an avenue for people to exchange views on news reports. While social media and online news portals do benefit society, there is a need to exercise proper decorum on these platforms.
